MEMORY

Architecture makes sense if it manages to become part of the society it serves and in which it is implemented. To do so, it must respond to the required function, integrating itself into the place without giving up incorporating the most modern elements offered by a globalized society, seeking the best sustainability in the face of the available investment and ensuring its maintenance and durability.

Modernity is not the strident fashions that seek to surprise at the moment, what is truly modern must endure, architecture must keep in mind that its life is centuries old, and for this it must be rigorous in all its elements, just the opposite of the objectives of fashion.

Modernity is implementing the latest technological, functional and aesthetic advances in step with the specific conditions of each project.

INTEGRATION IN A HISTORIC HOSPITAL COMPLEX. ENHANCING THE HERITAGE

Our proposal seeks integration within a well-defined historical complex that responds to the 19th century hospital buildings with pavilions. The complex is structured symmetrically, forming a main axis based on the different pavilions, including the church building.

We propose not to violate this order or structure of the existing buildings and that after the implementation of the new buildings, the existing longitudinal axis continues to be understood as the structuring element. For this reason, we surround the church on three of its sides with a low, one-story body, which houses all the primary care, with the waiting areas facing this new cloister where the church is integrated and not marginalized in the new hospital complex. This low body reinforces the leading role of the church and puts it back in value. Like a work of art, the church is framed.
